COMPANY STORY

Our journey began in 1954 in East Ketanggungan, Central Java in Oey Sioe Tjoen’s humble residence. With traditional furnace, he created his own blend of jasmine tea. He dried and hand-selected the tea leaves and jasmine flowers, and then carefully hand-packed them in paper under his brand names Angon, Walang, and Sepatu Terbang.

In 1980, the 9th son, Oey Tjie Tat started to continue to run the business. Determined to succeed and advance the company, he learnt by himself further in the art of tea using the same traditional furnace, and tried to sell his products by travelled around Java Province started from Central to East with his old truck. His business was run well after years and started to create some concoction which from jasmine leaves. After few trials and determination, he created some products like Medali, Serimpi, Joglo, and Kepyur. Each of the products tell and explain the distinctive and uniqueness of tea based on preference from areas among Java Island.

Teh Jawa was finally created in 1986, after experimenting with various quality of leaves, blending and processing techniques to capture the rich authentic taste of Javanese tea with strong flavor and body, astringent, and fragrant aroma. Today, the company has since developed many variations of Teh Jawa blends, both traditional and modern products such as tea bags and enveloped tea bags, and ready-to-drink tea.

Our commitment to increase the tea’s quality is to utilise selected ingredients to keep producing not only the best quality, but to bring out the authentic taste of tea that is enjoyable for tea drinkers and non-drinkers alike. This philosophy is the basis of our tagline which Nikmatnya Kesegaran Teh Asli means to enjoy the delightful freshness of tasting the authentic tea, reflecting our commitment and passion in the art of tea.

Not only selling tea products, we also do a lot of activities including doing series of product testing, building relationships and communities, and we always improve our trading and product quality.

ABOUT TEA

Camellia Sinensis is one of plants that can be used for making tea. It also can be processed into different types of tea, such as jasmine tea, green tea, and black tea/red tea.

1. Green Tea
Green tea is one of the most popular type of tea that we know among Asia countries because of its aroma, unique flavor also its benefits for health. All tea processing started from green tea which contains high antioxidant level. Green tea is a good choice to be served during Indonesian socialization culture; chit-chatting and discussion, and also a good companion for your relaxing time.

2. Jasmine Tea
Jasmine tea is a popular tea variant in Indonesia that is a combination of roasted tea leaves mixed with jasmine flowers that is sprinkled evenly. The aromatic fragrance then got absorbed by the tea leaves, that produced such fragrant tea. Jasmine tea has become Teh Jawa’s specialities and one of Indonesian’s favorite flavor because of the uniqueness of the taste and relaxing aroma.

3. Black Tea
Some part of Indonesia calls this type "red tea". This tea is fully oxidised thus giving strong flavor and distinct color compared to the others. This oxidation process affected the end result, as when you brew the tea, the water immediately turns red. It also become the origin of the name red tea. You can enjoy this tea by adding milk, sugar or lemon. Black tea is suitable to accompany your breakfast or lunch, during your important meeting, or for your tea time and me time.

INDONESIAN TEA & JAVANESE TEA CULTURE

Indonesian tea has the right fragrance as well as distinct cultural significance that will surely make anyone interested in enjoying one of our Archipelago's special drinks. There are several distinct tea culture found in across different parts of Indonesia such as Wasgitel, clay pot using rock sugar, and Nyampur Tea.
